Music
In this blog, I'm going to teach you how to play the drums. The first step to play the drums is by counting. Without being able to count, or understand the time signatures on sheet music, you'll be useless behind the drums. The most basic drum beats are in time signatures of 4/4, meaning there are 4 counts per bar(or 4 counts before the beat repeats). From here, you want to follow your counting with your dominant hand. "With this hand, hit the hi hat on every count. The rest is actually quite simple, now that you are counting, simply add your bass drum and snare drum on the counts. Add your bass drum on 1, and the snare on 3. This will be your basic drum beat." Now that you have learned the basics, you’ll be able to see how beats are built around the pattern. This is the basics of most rock beats. You’ll also have to practice controlling your drumstick and drum rudiments (pre-made exercises that will help you build limb independence and creativity). Learning rudiments will help you build independence and speed. It’s best to pace yourself at first to make sure you have a feel for the drum set and your drumsticks. Start with the two most common rudiments, the single stroke roll and double stroke roll. Become very familiar with that basic 4/4 groove, so you can play it at different tempos. You can do almost anything with the drums. They’re a great way to express your self, and show your interest and style in music. It’s also a great pastime, and good exercise.

Music
There are many things going on in the music industry right now, but one thing that I wanted to talk about is the new album and tour from We Came As Romans that is currently going on with many other awesome bands. “Although recording for a possible follow-up of To Plant a Seed is not scheduled until February and March, 2011 (Part 1), We Came as Romans embarked on the headlining Motel 6 ‘Rock Yourself to Sleep’ Tour (January and February, 2011) with For Today, The Word Alive, Woe, Is Me, and Texas in July, which included the Outerloop Presents Amped and Alive ‘Ice Jam’ festival on January 30, 2011 at Sonar, in Baltimore, Maryland with Silverstein co-headlining the event with We Came as Romans.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Came_as_Romans) We Came As Romans is currently working on a new album, following up their album “To Plant a Seed,” and will be released sometime in the summer of 2011. There isn’t any word yet on what the album will be called, or exactly when it will be released, however, it is for certain that they will be released sometime during the summer. In my opinion, We Came As Romans is an awesome band with many talented people, and they’re one of my favorite bands of all time.

There is a lot of knowledge about music that some people don’t know. There’s also a lot of stuff that I don’t know about my favorite bands. Some uncommon knowledge about music in general is that music wasn’t invented by anyone, it was discovered. Music has been around since life itself, and will always be around, even when you don’t realize it. More specific things that aren’t well known is about specific bands. We Came As Romans, for example. A lot of people know about them and listen to their music, but they don’t really know anything else about them, such as the names of the musicians, when they created their band, where they are from, etc. “We Came as Romans is an American post-hardcore band from Troy, Michigan. Formed in 2005, they have released two EPs and one full length album (LP).” That’s something most people wouldn’t know about the band unless they’re really into them and want to know more about them. Something else that isn’t very common knowledge about them is that they formed their band in 2005, with 5 members: Larry Clark, Sean E. Daly, Mark Myatt, Jonny Nabors, and Sean Zelda, however, all but one of them left the band in 2006, and were replaced with 4 with new people. There is a lot of other information about this band, and just music in general, that many people do not know. I hope with this blog I can share a bit of knowledge with you about the wide range of music in the world.
